Call me crazy, but while other folks are anticipating the turkey and gravy, the favorite side dishes made from family recipes, and the overall feast of goodwill that is Thanksgiving, I look forward to the start of the holiday specials on WDAV.
As Program Director for the station, one of my responsibilities is setting up the broadcast schedule. That means I personally select the holiday specials which we’ll carry, and I decide where on the program schedule they belong to bring good cheer to the maximum number of listeners.
I think I can honestly say that it’s one of the most pleasurable aspects of my job, and one I look forward to every year. It’s like planning a holiday party for my friends and family with some of the greatest music and performers in the world at my disposal! And beginning this weekend, I get to kick back and listen with all of you … well, I’ll be working and listening part of the time, too, but I do get to enjoy the fruits of my deliberations on the air along with you. I hope they please you as much as I anticipate they will.
This year I’m especially pleased about the number of local productions we’ll be presenting, including our very first nationally syndicated special, A Carolina Christmas from Biltmore Estate with Kathy Mattea. We’re expecting that show to be carried from the Carolinas to California, from Maine to Monroe, Louisiana, and from Lake Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico. What a thrill for host Jennifer Foster, the Charlotte area groups who perform on the program, and all of us here at WDAV – as well as, I hope, all of you who listen faithfully and make WDAV possible.
A Carolina Christmas from Biltmore Estate with Kathy Mattea first airs on WDAV this Saturday afternoon at 3. It’s just one of the numerous holiday programs we’ve got on tap for you this season. Just check our Holiday Specials page for the dates, times and details for all of them.
