After Three Decades as Your WDAV Morning Host, Mike McKay Announces His Retirement

To our dear WDAV listeners, supporters, and friends,

After a distinguished sixty-year career in broadcasting, our own Mike McKay will sign off from WDAV’s airwaves one last time this Friday, February 20, and embark on the new adventure of retirement.

Those of us who’ve called the Charlotte area home for a while know that Mike McKay was a household name for decades as WBTV’s popular weather anchor and entertainment editor from 1967-1995. Mike joined the WDAV announcing staff in 1997 as our morning drive host and has been providing beautiful music and dulcet educational commentary to our listeners ever since.

In his time at WDAV, Mike has not only been a faithful and calming presence on Charlotte’s morning commute, he has also emceed countless arts and culture events, produced special WDAV programming like Carolina Live, and occupied a permanent place in the hearts of Charlotteans for generations through his genuine, affable nature and his knack for making classical music accessible to everyone.

Mike leaves an extraordinary legacy as a professional in our region’s broadcasting sphere, and we have been so lucky to have him sharing his enthusiasm for classical music with listeners for nearly 30 years. Please tune in on Friday morning to salute Mike’s wonderful work with WDAV, and join us in celebrating Mike by sending him a congratulatory message or making a gift to WDAV in his honor.

With gratitude,

Frank Dominguez
