If you are skeptical about how a community can come together to create and support one great musical idea, watch this.
This virtual choir was organized by composer and conductor Eric Whitacre. The process was simple:
- Whitacre recorded a conductor track with an accompanist playing the reduction on the piano. He recorded a separate video discussing the piece and ilustrating a few musical concepts that all singers were to aim to achieve in their performances.
- A video was posted explaining the translation of the text with pronounciation.
- He posted individual-part videos, with one side of the screen showing the sheet music and one half of the screen showing the conductor track.
- And he invited the public to submit videos of individual performances. Those individual performances were stitched together to make this video.
